Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American TV journalist anchor and commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood within New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career as a radio and TV reporter for Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976, she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV located in Washington DC (then WTOP). She joined NBC News Washington two years later as an general reporter. In 1980, she began covering the White House. 1988 became the principal journalist for Congress. Mitchell became the the chief White House reporter in 1992, and chief Foreign Affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell was a host and panelist in the TV news show Meet the Press. Mitchell was on a panel for the 1988 presidential debates featuring George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell was awarded the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government as well as in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) awarded Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her work in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell covered the White House first for NBC News between the years 1981-88, which was in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. Mitchell reported on many noteworthy reports, including arm control, budget taxes and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also went to various summits while in the company of the President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
